Q: How many belts does 2001 Volkswagen Jetta vr6 have? (Answers: 2) (Comments: 0)
I own a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta vr6 and I was wondering if it has more than 1 belt? For example, steering wheel belt, driving belt, timing belt..? I don't even know what they are called for sure because I really don't know too much abouf cars lol.
A: From Steve:You just have one belt for all those functions. it is commonly called an Accessory drive belt or sometimes a serpentine belt. This is the diagram for your engine:

The idler pulley is a pulley that is spring loaded and it keeps pressure on the belt and keeps it tight to all the other pulleys. These belts usually last about 75K miles before they need replacement. then it is a good idea to take your old one and put it with your spare tire so you have an extra if you ever have the new one break on you in the middle of nowhere. They can be installed with some basic tools ususally.
A: From Julius:You should have one in which it runs around the idler pulley to the alternator, to the a/c compressor, to power steering pump, around the camshaft pulley, and coolant pulley
Q: How do you check the transmission fluid on your Volkswagen Jetta vr6? (Answers: 3) (Comments: 0)
So I have another question about my 2001 Volkswagen Jetta vr6. How do you check the transmission fluid on this thing? Lol.
A: From russian bandit:Right next to the oil pan is the transmission and I believe it's a 24mm check plug on the front of it. So you have to get under the car to check it
A: From Motorhead:I assume you mean manual transmission?
I believe it is a 17 mm allen just above the left drive flange on most Jettas with the 020 transmission.
But the vr6 Jetta may use the 02A transaxle, which has it in front, towards the tail end.
A: From oscar:If you're checking the transmission there should be a dipstick. Open the hood and look to the drivers side.

Q: 2001 vw jetta transmission shifts into first when trying for reverse? (Answers: 1) (Comments: 0)
Sometimes when trying to go into reverse, my transmission slips into first..
Also at times, when trying to go into first, it slips into third.
Is this the linkage? easy/cheap fix?
2001 volkswagen jetta vr6 2.8l 5speed.
A: From Chris:Sounds like it. There is a video on Youtube on how to adjust the linkages on a Mk 4 Golf / Jetta. Haven't watched the video myself, but it definitely won't be expensive to fix. Might be a bit tricky.

Q: Automatic Air Conditioning on Volkswagen? (Answers: 2) (Comments: 0)
I have a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta Vr6 GLX.
The car has automatic air conditioning, so does this mean even if i turn it off its still running? Or what is the best and most effecient way to have it set on degrees and keep it on all the time? Also does it use more gas even when its on or when its set to the current temperature of the day??
A: From 13:Look as you rise the temp. then the AC automatically will turn off my friend and the heater turns on and if you lower it then it will no automatically turn on unless you push the auto buttom if it is not hot then you can run it on economy mode. The gas usage stays the same if it is on or off.
A: From fenton:I owned a 2000 vr6 . I think the system was called Climatronic.
It will not 'run' if you turn it off.
The most efficient way is to find out your 'comfort zone'. Set it for that. Lets say you are comfortable at 73 degrees F. Once you set it at 73 the system will keep the interior at that temp. regardless of the season. If its 101 degrees suffocatingly hot outside or 23 degrees freezing it will automatically either turn on the AC or the heater to keep you happy.
If the AC is on that means the compressor is operating. This of course, means it will consume fuel. Not much though.
If its set for the current temp outside ,say 73 and you have the Climatronic set to 73 ,then it will not come on.
I just set mine to my comfort zone and left it there year-round. I couldnt really tell any difference in fuel mileage.
